The Choctaw Tribes and the local ranchers worked hard to get the Fort Worth and Denver City Railroad built in the town. The development of the railroad helped the town to grow.

The city also has a large system of public schools, including two that offer the International Baccalaureate Programme. There are also a number private and parochial school in the city.

Lucy Park

The 178-acre park is located in a river bend. The park has a large swimming pool, paved hiking and biking trails, and a nature center. There are also two large picnic areas and a cabin in the park.

The 2-mile main trail is ideal for hikers at any fitness level and age. There are many shorter paths that branch off of the main trail. These provide the opportunity to enjoy the scenery or observe birds.

Lucy Park’s man-made water fall is a popular photo location. It creates an heavenly scene. Ducks and geese are attracted to the park’s pond throughout the year. The park also has a number of picnic tables as well as a children’s playground.

Wichita Falls Waterfall

Wichita Falls TX offers something for everyone. From discovering nature to tasting Tex-Mex and local brews. Lucy Park is home to the city’s 54-foot man-made waterfall. The original was destroyed by floods in 1800.

Backdoor Theatre is housed in an opera house from 1908. The Backdoor Theatre showcases performing arts. The Kell House Museum documents the life of an early prominent family. The Museum of North Texas History exhibits artifacts of the Wild West.

You can find a great winery in the countryside that provides a high-end wine tasting experience. There is a large selection of wines, both from within the country and from Africa. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The restaurant also offers events like stargazing and wine pairings.

Alton Gates, along with his wife Lana, are passionate about their craft. The first year, they hand-watered their grape vines. They now produce many wines, including Wichita Red a white Zinfandel/Sangiovese mix that won a Bronze medal in 2005.

In a closed-door meeting, the 4B Board voted to provide $25,000 of sales tax revenue for the 6th Street Winery. The money is expected to help with utility costs, concrete alley repair and asbestos abatement.

Wichita Falls Aquatic Center

The Wichita Falls Aquatic Center offers a clean, safe environment that is family friendly. The premises are not permitted to use inappropriate language or conduct. Smoking is not allowed. Health inspectors inspect the facility throughout the year to ensure that it meets all public health requirements.

Safari Falls has a zero-depth splash park, with bubbling water and floatable elements to climb on. It also features a large slide, an elephant, and interactive play structures which spray water. The park is also wheelchair accessible.

Homewood Suites is located in a five-minute drive of Midwestern State University, and 20 minutes from Sheppard Air Force Base. The hotel features a swimming pool, hot tub and suites with flat-screen televisions.
