The historic small town of Stathaven contains a 12th century Castle, which although a ruin, is still worth a visit. The commercial centre is the Common Green and the Heritage Trail - which takes about 1 hour to complete - gives a good introduction to both the historical and modern. Why not also take time to visit the John Hastie Museum, and for children, spend some time in the Public Park with its children's play area, boating pond, mini railway, putting, tennis, bowls etc. Approximately 25 miles north west is Scotland's second city of Glasgow with its many shops, historical attractions, theatres etc. and about 40 miles east is the capital city of Edinburgh, both within easy driving distance for a great day out.
